Expectations vs Reality

Expectations vs Reality

In fact, these two photos (yes, yes - they are real children in a real museum) were taken just 20 minutes apart.

And the main ingredient of the first photo is a mission for the child: a question, a game, a riddle - no matter the form. The key is that it was not a passive look at the displayed objects.

In this specific case, it was a quiz, printed on a simple A4 sheet, but it required searching for the answers directly in the exhibition by observing the artworks.

In fact, I could just as easily show exactly the same scene with adults. We would also take pleasure in discovering the world through action and exploration. But fortunately, years of school and university have taught us to absorb information differently: by reading instructions and listening to explanations.

The result: we, the adults, no longer really have a format problem. Unlike children.
